Perseus large plaque
Son of Zeus, who transformed into a shower of gold to seduce Danae, (the
daughter of Acrisius, King of Argos). In order not to incur Zeus’s wrath,
Acrisius spared the lives of the mother and child, but set them adrift at
sea on a fail vessel. Found by Polydectes, attracted to Danae, tried to
dispose of Perseus by giving him the perilous mission of killing the gorgon
Medusa. Perseus succeeded and wed Andromeda, whom he had saved from a
monster. The head of Medusa, which still had the power to turn people in to
stone, enabled him to save his mother from the temple of Athena, where she
had been imprisoned as she sought to escape Plydectes’ advances.
