The lion ( Felisleo)

Holds first rank in ornamental fauna. His strength , great courage ,and nobility have assured him from the earliest time the title of “King of Beasts”. His majestic stature , his compact, proportionate build, his striding muscles, offer grateful problems for art. Lying, walking, sitting, fighting, conquering or conquered, hi is an often used motive. Among the Macedonians and Romans the lion was considered the guardian of springs and of gates and temples.
